Welcome to Class 5!
This year, Class 5’s teacher is me, Mr Oates, and we are supported by Mrs Flint all day on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Recently we have been investigating how materials can change in our science topic. We have conducted experiments and recorded our findings in many different ways including creating our own ebooks using the Book Creator app! Here are our ebooks for you to look at:
We have just finished writing and recording speeches in the role of Ernest Shackleton – motivating our crew to continue with their expedition even though it is getting tough! Have a listen – are you inspired and motivated by them?
Just before the half term holiday we finished creating our computer games. We have used the website scratch.mit.edu to design characters, backgrounds and then enter computer code in order to create a full animated flash game! Visit https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/4431890/ to play them.
We have now started our new book in English. It is a non-fiction text called Shackleton’s Journey and it tells the story of Ernest Shackleton’s expedition across Antarctica in 1914. We will also be continuing to work on fractions in maths and will be starting to play rounders in P.E!
On Thursday 30th November we performed our class assembly to the whole school, parents and even a governor! In our assembly we showcased our singing talents with “Don’t Stop Believin'”, our dancing abilities with a performance of “The Holy Trinity Haka” and our artistic flair with an art gallery that parents could look at. Here is a video of our assembly for you all to enjoy!
We are now signed up to Times Table Rockstars. Everyone in our class has their own login and we have loved creating our rockstar avatar and earning coins whilst practising our times tables! Go to www.ttrockstars.com and enter your username and password to play at home!
This half term we are studying a book called ‘The Journey’ by Francesca Sanna. So far we have been amazed by how much we can understand from the story just by looking at the pictures!
We are also learning about multiplication and division in maths lessons. To do this, we need to be really quick with remembering the times table facts. Some of us are fantastic already but others still need to get quicker so if you would like to practice just download the mad minutes sheets below and time yourself on how quickly you can complete them!
