Welcome to Nursery

We are delighted to be your new teachers and look forward to working with you and your family this year.

Mrs Tonge is the class teacher and is in school every day. Mrs Parveen and Mrs Rafique support the children within the class.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact a member of staff. You can get in touch by using the class DoJo App.

Morning Nursery session is 8.45-11.45am.
Afternoon Nursery session is 12.15-3.15pm.

PE - For all morning nursery children P.E will be on Wednesday. For all afternoon nursery children P.E. will be on Tuesday. Children should come to school dressed in their PE kit on this day.
Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school each day. To help staff please can you write your child’s name on their bottle.
Please make sure your child brings their blue book bag to school each day.
Reading book bags need to be brought to school every day.
Snack money is paid on a Monday and is £1 per week.

All children are expected to wear the school uniform.
Please make sure you label all of your child's uniform including shoes and coats.

Our whole school value this half term is Thankfulness.

This Term, we will be:

Making friends, learning our class rules and routines, learning how to take turns and sharing resources and toys.
Starting Phase 1 phonics. We will be listening and tuning into sounds in the environment and to be able to distinguish between sounds and patterns of sounds. We will also be developing our awareness of sounds made by various instruments and noise makers. Learning to play instruments alongside a nursery rhyme or song and making loud and quiet sounds
In English we will be sharing lots of stories around the topic ‘Marvellous Me, My Home and Community’ including the books ‘Super Duper Me!’, ‘Super Daisy’ and ‘Supertato’.
In Maths we will be learning how to compare collections of objects using the mathematical language of more than, fewer than and same. We will also explore simple pattern and join in with repeats.
Drawing and painting pictures of myself and my family.
Taking part in a weekly P.E. session learning fundamental game skills such as catching, throwing and kicking a ball with a specialised PE coach.
Discovering more about the season of Autumn looking at changes in weather, what we wear, animal and plant life.
In R.E. learning about how each one of us is special, created and loved by God.

This term we will be:

Continuing our Phase 1 Phonics. We will be listening and tuning into sounds in the environment and to be able to distinguish between sounds and patterns of sounds. We will also be developing our awareness of sounds made by various instruments and noise makers. Learning to play instruments alongside a nursery rhyme or song and making loud and quiet sounds.
In English we will be sharing lots of stories around the topic ‘Explore Autumn’ including the books ‘Pumpkin Soup’, ‘Stickman’ and ‘We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt’.
In Maths learning to count, recognise and subitise to 3 and exploring and building with shapes and objects. Meeting the artist Kandinsky and his painting, ‘Squares with Concentric Circles’.
Taking part in a weekly P.E. session learning fundamental game skills such as catching, throwing and kicking a ball with Coach Mia.
Discovering more about the season of Autumn looking at changes in weather, what we wear, animal and plant life.
In R.E. learning about people who are special and the Christian festival of Christmas. We will be learning lots of Christmas songs ready for our Christmas performance!

Our whole school value this half term is Love.

This term we will be:

Continuing our Phase 1 Phonics. This concentrates on developing children's speaking and listening skills and lays the foundations for the phonic work which starts in Phase 2. The emphasis during Phase 1 is to get children attuned to the sounds around them and ready to begin developing oral blending and segmenting skills.
In Literacy we will be reading lots of stories with a Winter theme including ‘The Little Penguin’, ‘Polar Bear’s Son’, and ‘The Snowball’. The children will take part in a variety of related activities ranging from art and craft, role play, baking and investigating!
Discovering more about the season of Winter looking at changes in weather, what we wear, animal and plant life.
Meeting the artist Pablo Picasso and his painting of a penguin.
In R.E. we will be looking at ‘The Bible’ and stories Jesus heard.
In PE we will be taking part in a weekly P.E. session with coach Mia from Edstart focussing on fundamental movement skills
In Maths the children will be developing a sense of number by counting out loud, matching and naming numbers, estimating and identifying how many are in a set. The children will focus mainly on numbers up to 5.

Our whole school value this half term is Trust.

This term we will be:

Continuing our Phase 1 Phonics. This concentrates on developing children's speaking and listening skills and lays the foundations for the phonic work which starts in Phase 2. The emphasis during Phase 1 is to get children attuned to the sounds around them and ready to begin developing oral blending and segmenting skills.
In Literacy we will focus on traditional stories such as ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and ‘The Gingerbread Man’. The children will take part in a variety of related activities ranging from art and craft, role play, baking and investigating!
Discovering more about the season of Spring looking at changes in weather, what we wear, animal and plant life.
Meeting the artist Georgia O’Keefe and her paintings of flowers. Using this as an inspiration to create their own flower pictures.
In R.E. we will be learning about stories Jesus told such as ‘The House on the Rock’, ‘The Lost Sheep’ and ‘Good Samaritan’. Children will also learn about the festival Easter, Mother’s Day and the Islamic period of Ramadan.
In PE we will be taking part in a weekly P.E. session with Edstart Coach, Mia completing games activities.
In Maths the children will be learning to count up to 3 objects from a large group, subitise to 3 and compare objects according to quantity and size.
