Welcome to Reception

We are delighted to be your new teachers and look forward to working with you and your family this year.

Mrs Isherwood is the class teacher and is in school every day. Mrs Bi and Ms Crompton support the children within the class.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact a member of staff. You can get in touch by using the class DoJo App.

Key Information

  • PE day is on a Wednesday. Children should come to school dressed in their PE kit on this day.
  • Please ensure your child has a water bottle in school each day.
  • Please make sure your child brings their blue book bag to school each day.
  • Pleasure for reading books will be changed every Friday. Please read them to your child and sign their yellow book.
  • Snack money is paid on a Monday and is £1 per week.

 

Class Dojo

We use Class Dojo to keep parents up to date with any key information and to show parents what we have been doing in Reception throughout the week. It is essential parents are signed up to Class Dojo in order to keep up to date with information from school.

Subject Overview Autumn Term 1

This term we will be:

  • Making new friends and learning new rules and routines
  • Starting our school’s phonic scheme, Read, Write, Inc. We will learn the sounds each letter makes and how to write them correctly. We will also start to learn to blend.
  • In English we will be sharing lots of stories around the topics, marvellous me, my home and my community.
  • Learning to write our names.
  • In Maths we will be learning how to subitise numbers to 5, how to accurately count saying how many objects there are. Saying 1 number for each object we touch and recognising that the final number is how many objects there are altogether. We will look at the composition of numbers to 5 and will be comparing numbers to 5.
  • Taking part in weekly PE sessions with coach Mia
  • Drawing and painting pictures of myself and my family.
  • Finding out about the season of Autumn.
  • In R.E. we will be learning about how each one of us is special and thinking about the question; Where do we belong?
  • Thinking about our school value ‘Thankfulness’
  • Taking part in Wiggle Worship sessions.

This term, we will be:

  • Continuing our school’s phonic scheme, Read, Write, Inc. We will learn the sounds each letter makes and how to write them correctly. We will also start to learn to blend.
  • In English we will be sharing lots of stories around the topic, Explore Autumn. Learning to write our names.
  • In Maths we will be learning how to subitise numbers to 5, how to accurately count saying how many objects there are. Saying 1 number for each object we
    touch and recognising that the final number is how many objects there are altogether. We will look at the composition of numbers to 5 and will be comparing numbers to 5. We will also explore shape and space.
  • Taking part in weekly PE sessions with coach Mia
  • Looking at the work by Artists Joan Miro and Wassily Kandinsky.
  • Finding out about the season of Autumn and learning about hibernation and why and what animals hibernate.
  • Exploring changes and decay.
  • Learning about figures and events from the past – Guy Fawkes and Remembrance Sunday.
  • In R.E. we will be learning about the Nativity and exploring why Christmas is special for Christians.
  • Thinking about our school value ‘Thankfulness’
  • Taking part in Wiggle Worship sessions.
