Welcome to Year 1

We are delighted to be your new teachers and look forward to working with you and your family this year.

Ms Philips is the class teacher. Mrs Nawaz and Mrs Munir supports the children in class.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact a member of staff. You can get in touch by using the class DoJo App.

Key Information

  • Please ensure your child’s jumper/cardigan is labelled with their name. School shoes should be black.
  • School lunches should be selected from the School Grid website at home, please remember to pre-order your child’s lunches.
  • Every child should bring a water bottle to school.
  • Please ensure you have access to Class Dojo as messages will be communicated via the app.
  • Changing reading books - Please listen to your children every day. Books will be changed weekly. Please ensure these are brought into school every day.

Subject Overview Autumn Term 1

  • English: writing simple phrases and sentences using our phonics.
  • Maths: counting forwards and backwards to and from 100.
  • Science: learning the names of different body parts, knowing which parts are associated with each sense.
  • RE: What does it mean to belong? This is the question we will be answering.
  • Humanities: finding out how toys have changed over time.
  • Life Education: learning how to keep ourselves healthy.
  • Art: learning how to create different types of lines using a range of materials.
  • PE: our theme this term is ‘Fun Fitness’.
  • Computing: learning basic skills on the Ipads, including how to save our work.

Subject Overview Autumn Term 2

  • English: writing simple phrases and sentences using our phonics.
  • Maths: Part-whole relationships and comparisons of number.
  • Science: Materials – Learning about the properties and different materials, and naming objects made from different materials.
  • RE: What do Christians believe God is like? We will be listening and responding to parables from the Bible.
  • Humanities: Weather – We will be learning about different types of weather.
  • Life Education: Relationships, including friendships.
  • DT: We will be developing our chopping skills to create a fruit smoothie.
  • PE: our theme this term is ‘Gymnastics’.
  • Computing: learning basic skills on the Ipads, including how to save our work.
