Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

We are delighted to be your new teachers and look forward to working with you and your family this year.

Ms Aslam and Mrs Fiaz are the class teachers. Ms Aslam teaches the class on a Monday and Tuesday.  Mrs Fiaz teaches the class on a Wednesday morning and all day Thursday and Friday.  In addition, Ms Cusack will be teaching the class for part of Wednesday afternoon.

Ms Foulkes and Mr Mahmood support the children in class.

Key Information

Your child will be given homework on a THURSDAY, this must be completed and brought back to school by the following Thursday. It is important your child completes their homework.

Reading

It is very important that your child brings this book home and back to school daily as no new books will be allowed home if it is not brought in. It is equally as important that your child reads every evening for at least 10 minutes. This can be independently, with an older sibling or adult.

Please remember to sign your child’s reading record.

 

Subject Overview Autumn Term 1

This half term our school value is ‘Thankfulness’. The children will discuss the importance of how to be grateful to God for our blessings during reflection.

In English we will be reading ‘Seal Surfer’ by Michael Foreman and concluding the half term by writing a
letter from the point of view of a character in the story.

We will also be learning new spelling rules and patterns.

The first unit in our Maths is ‘Addition and Subtraction- bridging to 10’ and followed by ‘Numbers to 1000.’

We are looking forward to learning about Movement and Nutrition in Science.

In Art, children will use various mark making techniques in drawing. This will enhance the children’s abilities to describe lines and control the materials they use.

PE will enjoy PE every Wednesday and the children will focus on Invasion Games this half term.

In RE we will be look at God’s Creation and what Christians learn from the story of creation.

In History we will be learning about the Stone Age and the changes to Britain.

In Life Education, children will learn about being safe, leaning out of windows.

Subject Overview Autumn Term 2

This half term our school value is ‘Thankfulness’. The children will discuss the importance of how to be grateful to God for our blessings during reflection.

In English we will reading the book ‘Winter’s Child’. At the end of the unit we will be writing our very own fantasy story.

We will also be learning new spelling patterns. Please continue to practise these at home. Your child will come home with new spelling every Monday.  

In Maths, we will be focusing on composition and calculation of three – digit numbers

In Science we will focus on Magnets and Forces. 

In DT the children will learn about seasonal foods and create some delicious recipes. 

Invasion games is a popular unit in PE and children will enjoy that this half term. 

In RE we will be focusing on the importance of God and the birth of Jesus. 

In Geography, the children will learn about rainforests around the world.
