Welcome to Year 6

We are delighted to be your new teachers and look forward to working with you and your family this year.

Mrs Dunkin is the class teacher and is in school every day. Mrs Bostock and Mrs Munir support the children within the class.

Key Information

  • Please order your child’s school dinner using School Grid.
  • P.E is on Tuesday. Please can the children wear the appropriate PE Kit.
  • A water bottle should be brought into school daily.
  • Please notify school in writing if you give permission for your child to walk home alone from school.
  • As the weather becomes colder, please ensure that your child brings a suitable waterproof coat to school.
  • Our value this term is thankfulness.

Reading

Children should read at home for at least 15 minutes each day. They should bring their red bag and reading book into school every day.

Additional homework tasks will be sent home as appropriate on a weekly basis.

Subject Overview Autumn Term 1

  • Reading the graphic novel King Kong by Anthony Browne and writing our own action/ adventure story.
  • Recapping the foundations of Key Stage 2 grammar, punctuation and spelling. Learning to show character through dialogue.
  • Improving our reading comprehension skills by examining different question types using VIPERS and Reading Buddies.
  • Calculating using our knowledge of mathematical structures and finding multiples of 1000 in Maths. We will also using and applying numbers to 10million.
  • Understanding how scientists classify living things and creating our own classification keys.
  • Finding out who the Vikings were in history and what we can learn from them.
  • Learning about our local area in Geography.
  • In R.E, Creation and science: conflicting or complementary?
  • Exploring how programs are coded in Computing.
  • In Art and Design exploring photography.
  • Playing and listening to various genres of Music with the Bury Music Service.
  • Invasion games and fitness in P.E with EdStart.

  • Our value this term is Thankfulness.
  • Preparing for Christmas through Advent.
  • Reading The Place for Me, stories about the Windrush Generation. Then, we will be writing an information leaflet based around events linked with Black History Month.
  • Revising the use of parentheses and modal verbs when writing non-fiction texts.
  • Improving our reading comprehension skills by examining different question types using VIPERS and Reading Buddies
  • Exploring numbers up to ten million; drawing, composing and decomposing shapes in Maths.
  • Understanding how light travels.
  • Continuing to find out who the Vikings were in History and what we can learn from them.
  • Learning about our local area in Geography.
  • Life Education: charity project and highlighting the risks of alcohol.
  • Exploring how programs are coded in Computing.
  • Designing and making waistcoats for a teddy bear.
  • Answering the question as to why some people believe in God and some do not
  • Singing and Performance with the Bury Music Service.
  • Invasion games in PE
